Eros International’s debut release grosses US$ 6.7 million worldwide in the first week

Eros International plc is pleased to announce that Omkara, Eros’s first worldwide theatrical release and first release into the Indian market, has grossed box office revenues of US$ 6.7 million in its first week since release.
Omkara, a Bollywood adaptation of Shakespeare’s Othello, has received an excellent response since its release and has found a place in the UK’s Top 10 charts alongside Hollywood films such as Cars, Break Up, Pirates of the Caribbean, Superman Returns and Garfield 2. (Source: EDI Neilson)
In the US, Omkara is ranked in Variety’s Top 20 US Box Office chart with a screen average of approximately US$ 10,000. This was higher than the screen average for other films from the chart such as Miami Vice, John Tucker Must Die, The Ant Bully and Scoop, all of which were released during the same weekend.
Vishal Bhardwaj’s inspiring adaptation of Othello has captured the imagination of audiences and the film’s powerful performances and mesmerising music have received critical acclaim the world over. Below are some quotes about Omkara.
